I’m still digesting last night’s Top Chef episode, so I thought I’d write down a couple quick thoughts before launching into a more detailed analysis. First, anyone that knows me or has read this blog in the past shouldn’t be surprised that I’m shocked at the outcome of Restaurant Wars. Tre was my hometown pick to win it all. Not only did I like him the most out all the contestants, I’ve eaten at Abacus at least five times over the years. Watching Tre be eliminated was like watching the Mavericks getting knocked out of the playoffs by the Warriors. Even though Tre lost, I did thoroughly enjoy the episode. I want to go into more depth about what I thought about the episode, but I’ll save that for another entry. For now, I recommend that anyone who watched last night’s episode check out Anthony Bourdain’s blog. He has a ton of respect for Tre, and he compares Casey’s onion dicing to an “Ina Garten on Thorazine.” Also over at the Top Chef site is an interview with Tom Colicchio. The New York Magazine food blog, Grub Street, has a nice interview with Tre. Serious Eats as always does a great job breaking down last night’s action.
